Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. ~ Matthew 11:28-30
You know that end of the week feeling you get? When you’re tired and stressed and basically just over it? When you feel like you’ve lived a year in a week and if you could crawl into bed any earlier than your usual bedtime (but probably can’t because you have so much to do), you would?
I feel that way a lot. Between school, work, my 2-year old and the plethora of responsibilities that come with home ownership, it’s hard not only to make it through the week, but make it through the week with a good attitude.
Most Fridays I think, well, this weekend, I’ll catch up on my sleep and get myself organized and by Monday it will all be better again. Except most weekends are spent playing catch-up on homework, housework and whatever other ‘work’ I failed to do that week. And Monday morning means it starts all over again!
What does it mean to have True Rest?
What would it be like to actually feel renewed, refreshed and truly energized?
It sounds almost like a promise that’s too good to be true – something that belongs in an infomercial about a new vitamin, new treatment or fad diet.
But it isn’t.
God offers us True Rest.
Rest that refreshes.
Rest that renews.
Rest that actually gives us the energy to get through our week – dare I say it – with a good attitude!
He offers us the ability to bring our problems to Him. Be consoled by Him. And allow the healing power of Jesus to enter our souls and renew our spirits.
But we often don’t take it.
Because we’re too busy.
Too tired.
Too negative with too much of a bad attitude.
But Jesus is still there.
Waiting for you.
Offering you his strength.
Offering you his renewal.
And the chance to gain True Rest.
You just have to spend time with him in prayer and meditation. On bended knees in your private space or meditating with him on a beautiful walk in the forest. Wherever and whenever you can meet him, he will be there for you.
That’s his promise.
Where will you meet God today? When will you find the time to get the True Rest He is offering?
I hope you take time to meet Him today :-)
