You ever had a day where a close friend seems to be in a bad mood and seems to direct her negative energy towards you? You know, you try to talk to her and cheer her up and she not only resists all your efforts, but doesn't seem to want to talk to you at all?
You know how you normally think, "I wonder what her problem is?" And wonder if you did something wrong or if you somehow offended her?
Here's a new thoughts - Maybe it doesn't have anything to do with you.
You know how your boss often uses you as a 'sounding board,' which can sometimes be translated into 'scapegoat' or 'whipping boy?'
You know how you often dread going to his office because you are tired of hearing his rants and can't figure out what his problem is or why he keeps taking things out on you?
Well, think about this: maybe it doesn't have anything to do with you.
And you know how your spouse often comes home in a bad mood, where she doesn't have anything good to say to you, the kids or even the dog sometimes? You know how you start to think if she didn't always have a frown on her face, you wouldn't even recognize her any more?
Contemplate this - maybe it doesn't have anything to do with you.
And you know that fella on the metro (or subway) who you see every freaking morning, but he acts like he doesn't know you, won't make eye contact or speak to you any longer? Even though you've had several conversations, know all about his girlfriend and his mama and how much he hates his job (in great detail)?
You know what? Maybe his bad attitude doesn't have anything to do with you.
Maybe these people are just in bad moods, have no compassion or empathy, don't see the world the way you do or are just oblivious to the impression they make on you and on others.
Maybe their problems begin and end with themselves.
And maybe it doesn't have anything to do with you.
Think about it :-)
